New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Review)
Finally got to play New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii and I gotta say it’s an amazing experience. As fun and entertaining yet as cool as the Nintendo Wii, New Super Mario Bros. has everything to be the next Wii Classic.
If you remember Super Mario Bros. 3, the first Mario game with a world map, you’ll feel really familiar with the way New Super Mario Bros. works. People from Nintendo really made an effort in developing brand new levels for this game, it’s probably the best 2D Mario game from the latest years, still not quite as good as Super Mario Bros. 3. Level design goes from really simple and classic to really hard like back in the old Mario days, so it can get really challenging, with smart, planned ninja moves. I like the whole new way the game goes in 2D with brand new 3D graphics, just as in New Super Mario Bros. for DS but better. There are new suits for Mario, some of them not as original as I would’ve expected but must of them bring that special something in the game as in previous Mario titles.
The multiplayer game is an important part of this title as it’s funnier and better to play with other 3 friends. You get to play as Mario, Luigi and 2 generic, same and boring Toads (nice on this one Nintendo). I would’ve expected some really original design for the characters but still, it’s really fun, still it can sometimes get a little frustrating if your party is not as good as you expected.
Another important addition to the game is the Super Guide, in which, after losing 8 lives in the same level, you can activate it and a computer controlled Luigi will come up to show you the way. It can look really easy, but for some levels, it’s not, so it all depends on what you get to see, what you remember and how good your reflexes and timing are. There are some Hint Movies too so you get to find secrets and stars and coins in the levels, which you can buy with star coins.
A disappointing something is Yoshi, as he only comes on a couple levels, still totally fun. The game’s music is amazing, not as good as Super Mario Galaxy’s, but still a nostalgic collection of classic sounds.
Classic, challenging, redesigned and new, Super Mario Bros. Wii is a game that must be in your game library if you got a Wii.
